the interaction of object boundaries in virtual environments
An object's edges differentiate it from the environment. The outline of its shape also gives perceptual cues about its three-dimensionality. The edges around an object create its outline and are the link between communication among things (including overlap, scale, and parallax) and the internal configuration of the object. The interior dimensions of an object bridge the outer boundaries of the object and its inner surfaces and textures. Together, the outer and inner edges of an object provide strong cues about its three-dimensional size, location, angle, and motion. Also, IADIS provides coverage about this.
"Augmented Reality" is a predominantly tangible setting into which some virtual things are superimposed to increase the feasible scope or scale of operation of the real world. Examples have a surgeon employing virtual reality to work at a micro-scale that could not be done with unaided one's hands or a pilot with a translucent Head Mounted Display (head mounted display) that overlays maps on the pilot's range of sight to direct directional assistance.
